Local government meetings can be challenging. The public has full access to all meetings, yet when resolutions are finally passed, there is great surprise and concern.

One of the problems is that government cable TV and web streaming content may have audio that's less than ideal, and viewers tune out. I can fix that, using fundamental principles of audio.

Without professional attention, audio can be distorted, low level, buzzy, humming, unreliable, and otherwise garbled. Some reasons for this can be:

• Improper equipment has been installed
• Proper equipment is missing
• Wiring is damaged or improperly configured
• Impedances are mismatched
• Lines are unbalanced
• Microphone-level signals over long distances
• Audio is comingled with power lines
• Phantom power is misused or missing
• Signals are split improperly
• Equipment has been set up improperly
• Gain stages are not optimized
• Microphones are too distant
• Dynamics and EQ are improperly used
• Room acoustics are bad
• No one is paying attention to audio
